Speaking at the opening of a national sports tournament, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte warned Islamic terrorists that he can be “50 times” more brutal and can even “eat” them if captured.
The comments came after Duterte recently ordered troops to kill fleeing jihadists involved in a failed terror attack in the Bohol province. Sending out a strong yet crude message to Islamic militant group Abu Sayyaf, the president warned them saying, “If you want me to be an animal, I’m also used to that. We’re just the same.” “I can dish out, go down what you can 50 times over,” he added.
Rodrigo Duterte rose to power in June 2016, and vowed to end the drug problem in the country. He went ballistic against drug suspects with death threats. Since then thousands of people have lost their lives at the hands of vigilantes carrying out executions. Earlier, he has even warned to place southern Philippines under martial rule if the problem of terrorism keeps getting worse.
Raising his voice up several decibels, Duterte minced no words when he said he can even “eat” organs of militants. “Just drive me to extreme anger, and I can eat a person. Give me salt and vinegar and I’ll eat his liver.” He continued, “You know, I am capable of eating a person. If you anger me, in truth, I will eat you alive. Raw.”
Known for his unrelenting crime-buster image and brusque remarks, Rodrigo Duterte has gone to the extent of calling former US President Barack Obama a “son of a wh*re”.
