A high voltage political drama is seen currently in Tamil Nadu politics. The caretaker Chief Minister O. Paneerselvam (OPS) belonging to AIADMK party, was seen meditating at the Former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, J. Jayalalithaa’s memorial, for about 40 minutes. Later, he addressed the press and revealed some of the important facts regarding his resignation and some political instances happening around.
Some of the highlights of the meeting are
After the death of J. Jayalalithaa, O. Paneerselvam was pressured to take up the role of Chief Minister by the other party cadres of AIADMK. The move was taken since he has already been CM, when J. Jayalalithaa was alive and is in the good books of the party members as well as the people of Tamil Nadu.
While J. Jayalalithaa was alive, she wanted E. Madhusudhanan (member and former minister of AIADMK) to become the successor of General Secretary Post of AIADMK.
After taking up the CM role, people were quite satisfied with the actions of O. Paneerselvam with respect to Vardah cyclone, Krishna water sharing for Chennai and most importantly for passing ordinance for Jallikattu. This created jealousy among the other senior party members and Sasikala Natarajan.
Without the knowledge of O. Paneerselvam, a party meeting was called upon on 5th February 2017. There, he was forced to sign the resignation letter by the family members of Sasikala Natarajan and other party members of AIADMK, so that Sasikala Natarajan could take up the post of Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
O. Paneerselvam was not allowed to see J. Jayalalithaa when she was hospitalized in Apollo Hospitals, though he went to the hospital for all the 75 days.
Following this press meet, the AIADMK ministers gathered at Ms. J. Jayalalithaa’s residence, Poes Garden, where Sasikala Natarajan is currently residing. It was announced by Sasikala Natarajan, that as a General Secretary of AIADMK, she is removing O. Paneerselvam from the post of AIADMK Treasurer and soon will also be removed from the basic membership of the AIADMK party.
