
1993 Mumbai Bomb Blasts:

Special TADA court is hearing its verdict on Friday in connection with the serial blasts in Mumbai on March 12, 1993. In this case, Justice G.S. Sanap’s bench is listening to its decision. In this case, gangster Abu Salem has been convicted on charges of involvement in the conspiracy. The court considered Salem as the main conspirator of the bomb blast. Also, Mustafa and Mohammad Dosha, Firoz Rashid Khan, Karimullah Shaikh, Tahir Merchant also convicted 93 blasts. At the same time, an accused Abdul Qayyum has been acquitted by the court. A large number of security forces are deployed in the court premises. From Monday onwards the punishment of the convicts will be heard.

Apart from Salem, these culprits include Mustafa and Mohammad Dosha (Dosa brothers), Tahir Merchant, Abdul Qayyum, Karimullah Sheikh and Firoz Rashid Khan. The court had completed the hearing of the case a few days ago. Mustafa Dosa, who was convicted of the bombing, was arrested in 2004 from the UAE.
In 2005, underworld don Abu Salem and his girlfriend Monica Bedi were extradited from Portugal. The other five accused were also brought to India from Dubai. However, the victims families of these blasts were eagerly waiting for the verdict to be pronounced on Friday.
What was the case?
On March 12, 1993, there were 12 bomb blasts in Mumbai one after another. In the blast, 257 people were killed, while more than 700 people were injured. It is said that property worth Rs 27 crore was destroyed in the blasts. In this case, charge sheet was filed against 129 people.

In year 2007, TADA court sentenced 100 people In this case, Yakub Memon was hanged in 2015. In another case related to the blast, film actor Sanjay Dutt was found guilty of possessing illegal weapons and he was sentenced to five years by the TADA court. The mastermind of the blast is absconding since 1995. Dawood Ibrahim is absconding since 1995.
