Kangana Ranaut’s Abode Of Tales, Of Mountains & Merry

Extremely classy, rustic, and every bit of personal – Kangana Ranaut’s home captures the Queen’s refreshing candour at its best, and speaks for itself. Featured in the latest issue of Architectural Digest India, this earthy haven is all one could ask for.

After spending her initial struggling years in a one-room apartment in Versova, Kangana moved to an apartment in a Santa Cruz high-rise post the success of Fashion. She says, “I had new money, and my only instruction to the designer then was that he use the most expensive stuff ever.” “But after a while, it started to feel like a hotel. As actors, we travel a lot, and coming back to another five-star felt too cold and sanitized,” she adds.

As told to Architectural Digest India, Kangana moved to her current space, a fully-furnished, four-bedroom apartment in Khar three years ago. But she soon “broke everything down, because while it was very beautiful, it had no originality, or any sense of belonging.”

The idea of refurbishing the house came into form when Kangana met Richa Bahl while she was filming Queen (2014). Richa, who also happens to be director Vikas Bahl’s wife, helped Kangana put her vision into place.

Speaking of her vision, Kangana says, “I’m a mountain girl, and I wanted a bit of a mountain flavor, with a lot of greenery and color.” And with slate tiles, wooden-beamed ceilings, and rustic walls exuding a lived-in look, the duo designed a home nothing short of a rustic dream.
