
Now that Met Gala is done and dusted with, it is time for the second most significant red carpet events of the year. The Cannes international film festival is not just about films. It is more about the fashion fronts and celebrities from all over that line up to do so. The 11-day festival held in France is a big parade of its own with wonderful opportunities to collaborate with international celebrities, to attend premieres, screenings and even be part of the after party. With less hippie gears and flower crowns, Cannes offer a red carpet that is more sophisticated and glamorous. Here is all you need to know about it:

Where and When?
As the name says, the festival is from Cannes, France but more specifically it is held at the most luxury and elite space, Boulevard de la Croisette. It is famous for its home boutiques, hotels and some of the best beaches in Cannes. High profiled, and A listed celebrity often show up in superyachts at the Pierre Canto Marina. The 11-day festival starts on 14th May 2019 and ends on 25th May.

How does it work?
A dozen films are selected by the Jury to compete for the prestigious Palme d’Or prize. These movies are often from prestigious directors who have won other awards as well. About 20 movies are screened during the festival from which one is selected based on the ones picked by the Jury of film industry professionals. Other than the main seven awards, special recognition and other awards are also presented at the ceremony.

Who is the Jury this year?
This year’s president for the Jury is Mexican filmmaker Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu who directed the Oscar-winning movies Birdman and The Revenant. He has also won numerous other awards including golden globe and Croisette.

What are the party and fashion scenes?
Even though Cannes is a film festival, with so many events and after parties, Cannes can get pretty wild too. The amfAR Gala is one of the biggest and important ones among the events and parties. The red carpet of Cannes is quite an important one also. Some beautiful fashion can be seen on the red carpet every year, and it sometimes outtakes Met Gala and the Academy awards as well.
